Opportunity to make a difference

Posted by: michelle on Mon Jun 02, 2008 11:29 pm
Camp Shooting Star is a summer day camp for children with autism. The camp will run for one week and is anticipated to accommodate anywhere from six to ten children with autism, with a 1:1 ratio of counselors to campers. The counselors will all be volunteers from UCSB and will complete a training seminar, which will include: an intro to autism, behavioral therapy, first aide and CRP training. The camp is a non-profit organization, which will provide services free of charge to the families. The most unique part of this program will be the opportunity for the campers to interact with children their own age in typical activities.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers to work as counselors. Because this camp has a one-to-one camper to counselor ratio, not only will this camp teach you leadership and teamwork skills, give you experience with children affected by autism and look great on a resume, you will also have the opportunity to enrich the life of a particular child and in doing so, you will enrich your life as well.

Although not religiously affiliated, Camp Shooting Star will be held at the beautiful St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Santa Barbara. If transportation is an issue, a carpool will be arranged.

Camp will be held the first week in August (2nd - 8th), which includes weekend autism training for the counselors. Volunteers will be expected to work Monday-Friday 9:00am-3:00pm, as well as attend a two-day training the weekend before the camp begins (August 2nd and 3rd). (Free Breakfast and coffee are provided every morning for all counselors!!)

Hi family

I wanted to remind you all that this coming Wednesday is our last large group (May 28th) at 7:30pm in Broida 1640.
On that day we will be having a special fund raiser for all the people going on missions. Praise, Michelle, Elaine H., Priscilla, Emily, Bert, and Jamie will being going on missions, and we willing be having a silent auction, auctioning off stuff( services, secret boxes, baked goods, etc.) to raise money for their trips. I wanted to remind all of you to bring some cash with you, and maybe a check book, but cash is preferable. Yay!! i am excited to see all of you this Wednesday, and have a blessed week.

love Kristine

Large Group moved to 7:30pm

Due to our room change, large group is now at 7:30pm!

We hope those who had class can now make it and that we can take advantage of the extra 30 minutes to fellowship with God, or to get some more homework done, or to eat dinner...

Thank you for being patient and for not leaving us because of all the changes.

Praise God for reminding us that HE is in control. He's really putting our theme to action -> MOVE!
